Glen Aine Foods was facing multiple operational and safety issues with their existing high pressure washdown system.
Challenges Faced by Glen Aine Foods
Unreliable, with frequent breakdowns and maintenance issues.
Damaging sensitive equipment, especially electrical components, due to excessive water pressure.
Inefficient, as it spread debris during cleaning rather than removing it effectively.
Labour-intensive and inconsistent, requiring operators to manually mix chemicals into mobile foaming units - creating both inconsistency in concentration and posing significant health and safety risks.
The company needed a cleaning solution that was efficient, safe, reliable, and designed to meet the stringent hygiene standards of food production.
The Arcus Central Washdown System Solution
Arcus Cleaning Systems designed and installed a centralised medium pressure washdown system tailored to the needs of Glen Aine Foods. The new system features:
A 25 bar booster pump delivering consistent pressure to four satellite cleaning stations across the facility.
All-in-one functionality at each station: rinse, foam, and sanitise from a single outlet.
Direct chemical suction from canisters - eliminating the need for manual mixing, reducing handling risks, and ensuring consistent chemical concentration.
Food-grade components throughout, designed to safely handle chlorine-based chemicals common in the food industry.
Efficient rinsing performance at 25 bar - ensuring fast, thorough cleaning with minimal hot water and chemical use.
Gentle yet powerful operation, which protects sensitive equipment and reduces downtime caused by water-related damage.
Results for Glen Aine Foods
Since implementing the Arcus system, Glen Aine Foods has experienced:
Improved reliability, with consistent performance and minimal maintenance.
Enhanced safety, by eliminating manual chemical mixing.
Greater efficiency, enabling four users to clean simultaneously with no loss of pressure.
Reduced energy consumption, with the new system using only one-third of the power compared to the previous high pressure setup.
Improved process equipment longevity, with no further water-related damage.
Lower hot water and chemical usage, improving sustainability and reducing operational costs.
Client Feedback
Shane Crowley, Quality Manager, Glen Aine Foods had the following to say:
“We were previously using a basic high-pressure system for washing down our production areas, combined with mobile foaming units. The high pressure system was inefficient and provided inconsistent pressure when more than one operator was working. The need to manually dilute the cleaning chemicals into the mobile foamers meant concentrations were not consistent and posed a safety risk. We also found we were using an excess amount of hot water.
Arcus provided a centralised cleaning system with multiple wash stations around the factory, which has completely removed the need for mixing chemicals manually. We just bring 25L drums of undiluted chemical to the wash stations and the system does the rest. We’ve since found the chemical concentrations to be very consistent.
Since the introduction of the system, we are using less hot water, the system has proven 100% reliable in the 2 years it has been in, and there is also improved employee wellbeing for our Hygiene Operators. We would have no problem recommending Arcus and their equipment to anyone.”
